White mud river12/27/2023 The region is immortalized in Wallace Stegner’s Wolf Willow. ![]() The Frenchman River is known locally as the Whitemud River, after the white clays common to the area. The origin of the name is uncertain but both Métis and Francophone settlers occupied the region in the early 1900s. In the morning we made the White Mud Portage, which was very picturesque, and of which I took a sketch, with the Indians and squaws. Davis in 1918, 1 the formation is characterized by white kaolinitic clay and is a. 2 it is present through the plains of southern Saskatchewan, southeastern Alberta and south-central Alberta. After the Depression, the PFRA developed irrigation reservoirs at Eastend and Val Marie. The Whitemud Formation is a geologic formation of Late Cretaceous ( Maastrichtian) age in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. Its flow is highly variable, and early ranchers trapped floodwaters for Irrigation. White River Hardwoods, a family-owned business located in Northwest Arkansas, is a manufacturer of Embellished and Traditional Hardwood Mouldings, Corbels and Architectural Woodcarvings for the Millwork and Kitchen & Bath Industries. The Frenchman flows through the West Block of the Grasslands National Park. The modern valley ranges from 30 to 106 metres deep, much of it infilled by debris from ancient Landslides. Its total drainage area is about 6,500 square kilometres (2,500 sq mi). Meltwaters carved a channel up to 180 metres deep between the ice and the unglaciated uplands. The Whitemud River is a small, highly meandering river in southwest Manitoba.It begins at the junction of Stony Creek and Boggy Creek in Neepawa, and flows east to Arden, Gladstone, Westbourne, discharging into Lake Manitoba at Lynchs Point. Christiansen and Sauer (1988) have shown that the valley originated as glacial meltwater channel, draining water from an ice-lobe that flowed around the southern edge of the Cypress Hills. Approximately 341 km long, it is one of the few Saskatchewan rivers that lie within the Mississipi drainage basin. It flows eastward across southwestern Saskatchewan before turning south across the 49th Parallel and into the Milk River in northern Montana. The Frenchman River rises in Cypress Lake and is fed by streams flowing off the southern flank of the Cypress Hills.
